JUST FOR FUN

As society is growing increasingly isolated and tech-addicted, one of our core values is to steer students away from screens and into relationships. We try to model this personally and foster this among our students by providing opportunities for them to get together outside of class for fun and fellowship.

STUDY DAYS

Periodically throughout the school year, we invite students over to our home to study together, collaborate on projects and help students who want a little coaching. Although it is a study day, we also make sure to provide a little time for goofing off and having fun.

Field Trips

Each year we have one or two field trips as well as spontaneous invitations to events we think the families will enjoy. This builds friendships among the students and the parents. We have done field trips to places like White Sands, archery, Urban Air, the zoo, and coffee shops to hear live music.

Fall Campout

Weather permitting, we do a campout each fall at Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground which is one of the best-kept secrets in the area. It’s a beautiful setting, with a spectacular 4-mile hike, and clean bathrooms and it’s only 40 minutes from El Paso. It is one of TELOS’ favorite activities.

rifle build

Each year, we offer a rifle-building class to those who are interested. This is a parent/student activity where we build a customized rifle according to the family’s desires and then go through cleaning and maintenance. We then go to the range, test it, sight it in, do a deep dive on firearms safety and then do some basic marksmanship drills with an emphasis on range safety.

Instructor: Mike Kolesar (Enthusiastic rifle builder and lover of all things that go boom!)

MOVIE NIGHTS

Throughout the year and summer, we have periodic movie nights. We pick an age-appropriate movie, filter out objectionable material, and have food, popcorn and drinks. After the movie we use concepts from Meaning at the Movies to discuss the movie in terms of message, world-view, content, artistic merit, and what we can learn both positively and negatively from the film as believers in Christ.
